New Financial Education Service - The MoneyActive Programme
13 May, 2009
The new MoneyActive Programme has officially been launched. The programme consists of a 3 year partnership between the Nationwide Building Society and the Citizens Advice Bureau (a national charity).
MoneyActive comes at a particularly important time because the current economic downturn looks set to continue. Figures from CAD show that bureaux dealt with1.76 million debt issues in 2008. Financial capability training equips people with the skills to prevent them from falling into financial difficulties and to be able to budget, borrow and save with confidence.
Contractors and freelance workers seeking ways to manage their money more effectively could be interested in the new financial education service.
At least 100,000 people are set to benefit from the financial education sessions, which are being funded by the Society’s £3 million investment and delivered by 1,300 specially trained CAB volunteers.
Mr. David Harker, the Chief Executive at CAD, said that MoneyActive is a unique and extremely ambitious project which delivers a commitment to do more to help people avoid getting into a financial crisis. They plan to set up over 75 specialised centres in the UK in the 1st year with plans for more over the next 3 years that will offer training sessions and will also offer a web portal.
