Electronic PAYE
21 May, 2009
While employers are generally given a week’s grace as an extra statutory concession in submitting their PAYE returns, time is running out and employers with 50 or more employees may be facing penalties.
A spokesman for the HMRC said that the filing of 2008-09 PAYE returns was pretty much as had been expected and the department’s IT system had coped very well. By the deadline on 17th May more than 52 million PAYE returns had been filed electronically - approximately 28 million transferred by electronic data interchange and 24 million submitted online. Only 1.4% of the PAYE returns were filed on paper.
